I have grown up as a nationless individual. Being born in Honduras, and raised in the states, I’ve never come to associate strongly with either. This allows me a removed, objective perception of country and nationalism. My work, in turn, deals with identity in regards to authority and socio-political structures. It questions why we rely on external forces to shape our values and priorities. My study of philosophy and psychology inform this practice.
Currently, these subjects take form through paper and small metals, synthesized with text as content and pattern. Each work explores nuances within my overarching themes, such as collective ideologies, or the propagation of the individual. This manifests in many varying forms: protection, such as paper armor; satire, such as propaganda against the state; jewelry, in the form of empowering body pieces. My practice helps me find direction and validation.
